Things That Money Can Not Buy...

Releasing new music sort of feels like dropping your only child off at school for the 1st time and shooting new videos sort of feels like preparing for a new baby to be born. It's a lot of hard work but worth every bit of it in the end.



As if it's not hard enough just to be the artist and star in your own music video, for this particular music video "Gnarly" I've opted to be both in front of and behind the camera by taking the liberty of shooting it myself with the help of long time friend and videographer Digital PitBoss.



After a few weeks of planning, casting and scouting locations with my team (Folami, Terria "Jo" Grant, Brenton Tignor Jr., Mia & Digital Pittboss) it was time to put in the work of filming. Thankfully, we ended up with a great cast. Everyone enjoyed themselves and handled shooting outside in the blazing sun like troopers.



Jo had the double duties of casting director and stylist while Folami had the duties of co- casting director, wardrobe, hair & make-up. Mia was Folami's personal assistant & Digital Pittboss was Director along with myself, camera operator and editor, while Brenton Tignor Jr. was primary assistant and assistant camera operator.



One thing I've learned in my experience with shooting music videos is that they are only as good as the team behind them and although I've yet to have the luxury of shooting a big budget video I've been blessed to have genuine people around me that are truly talented at what they do and believe in me as an artist. That in itself is a luxury that money cannot buy.

They say "Anything worth having is worth working for". Well, if they don't... they should and this video is proof of that statement. I've faced obstacle after obstacle surrounding this song, video and project overall including lost session files at one point, system crashes, corrupted hard drives, getting kicked out of the W hotel (The original video location) for obvious reasons, blown ad deals, contractual dis-agreements etc... The list goes on. There were people, "Friends" & "Family" that suggested that it just wasn't meant to be but, in my heart I knew that it was. Sometimes we stumble and we need help to get back up. Sometimes there's no one else around to help you so you have to get back up on your own.



Life has a way of giving you just enough to keep you wanting more. The morning of Day 1 was crazy! Most of it was spent in a cloud of smoke trying to track and collect the last bits of a checklist of items while on the phone with Muffy going over details.



I really wasn't sure what to expect before hand. I usually just go with the flow so that day was no different. The girls were already at holdings, the crew was on set, the W Hotel had been paid and the key to the corner suite was ready for pick up. Muffy & I Arrive ready to work.



As Muffy, The Girls & I change, Dirty & The camera crew begin to load in at the W. That's when everything goes wrong. The W Hotel realized what we intended to do in their fine establishment and deemed it not to be welcome. So, after a long drawn out explanation and a few cuss words Not to mention 75% of the all girl cast leaving upon hearing the news (I guess they only do videos shot in hotels) we change locations and continue on.



What we ended up with was an awesome group of people that came to have fun. The shoot ended up lasting all day & when it was over there was feathers everywhere! Think... Morning after a rave party. New friendships were formed, new projects formulated and Life had happened.



I would like to thank Muffy for being a part of this song & helping me to bring it to life. I would also like to thank Folami. I wouldn't be able to do any of this without you being there with me every step of the way. I would also like to thank Ray Murray for creating the perfect soundscape for "Hey U!" & last but, not least and at least not forgotten... That dude Dirty and The Dirty Boy Social Club for putting it all together.

AKA: The War On Normal... If you missed Dirty Hollywood v13... You have no life! The one year anniversary of the Dirty Hollywood Showcase was Freakin Awesome!!! If you didn't know... SideStreet KED is Crazy!!! Self Diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder it's hard to anticipate which one will show up at any given moment but, at Dirty Hollywood last Thursday all of them came out to play. There's SideStreet, The wild one that likes to smoke, drink and have a good time. There's KED, The most sane of the bunch that usually keeps everything in perspective and likes to deliver subtle messages to the crowd. He's very educated, well rounded, cultured & has a college degree. KED is energetic, loves art, music & film, plays guitar & bass & is most known for his charm & wit. Then there's The Effn. Hot headed & Conceited with little to no regard for anything other than himself with a mouth that tends to get them all in trouble. There's also The GangLeader, A Street kid raised by various Thugs, Hoodlums & Gangbangers. Along with The Effn, The GangLeader is known for giving them all a bad reputation. The Avenue Kid is a 15 year old revolutionary child prodigy. Leaving High School for Higher Education he's well studied in a wide range of fields from History & Culture to Poly Sci but, at the current moment he seems to be enthralled in the study of The Chaos Theory. Although known for being a smart aleck, He's most known for rambling off useless information about the most random subjects at the most appropriate or inappropriate times. Most of them get along most of the time because they are all fighting for the same thing... The Destruction of Normal.

Performing at a Dirty Hollywood is always fun. It reminds me of the old Drunken Unicorn shows I performed on like Fuggin Awesome and Thi!nK N3w... when there was an energetic crowd, A stage full of prima donnas & Yelawolf was hanging upside down from the beams on the ceiling. The energy felt good. Boredom had to feel the asswhoopin' I dropped on it that night.

THIS IS A WAR ON ALL THINGS NORMAL. The enemy's most powerful weapons are Common & Regular. People, please protect your minds. Be Different. Think New. Boredom is the Devil!

Be entertained. Join the fight to enjoy life! Stop being controlled by Mass Communication. Why find enjoyment only in the things that we are told we should enjoy?
